I just received my copies of the CD “New Music for Solo Piano 2.” I am very pleased with Natalia’s performance of my Le Campane di Barga. So often, performers of contemporary music are satisfied simply to play the correct notes and rhythms at an approximate tempo with little concern for the music itself. I was so pleased that Natalia played the MUSIC, not just the notes. There were sections of the piece where I considered eliminating the meter and bar lines, but I decided against doing that. Natalia instinctively knew where those sections were and performed them very fluidly and without an obvious sense of meter. She also captured the playful aspects of the piece perfectly. Her sense of rubato was wonderful. I am very pleased with the result. Please let her know of my reaction to her excellent performance.
