The International Composers’ Competition WITOLD SZALONEK was born from the idea to create a project that will work on the meeting of the contemporary music of our time, dedicated to the memory of the great Polish composer of the 20th century WITOLD SZALONEK (1927-2001).

The organization will select composers who will have the opportunity to participate in the International Composers’ Competition WITOLD SZALONEK from 4 to 5 June 2018 in the city of Kwidzyn (Poland).

The composers’ selected works will be performed in two final concerts during the II Kwidzyn Music Spring International Festival.

Regulations

Article 1 – Object

The Phasma-Music Foundation hereby announces the First Edition of the WITOLD SZALONEK International Composition Competition.

WITOLD SZALONEK - born in 1927 in Czechowice-Dziedzice, died in 2001 in Berlin, Polish composer. In 1949-56 he studied at the State Higher School of Music in Katowice. Following his first successes at international composers' competitions, he received a grant from Kranichsteiner Musikinstitut in Darmstadt (1960). In 1962-63 he continued his studies with Nadia Boulanger in Paris. In 1967 he began to teach composition at the Katowice School and in 1970-74 was in charge of the Department of Composition and Theory. In the early 1970s he was invited by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst to work as artist in residence at West Berlin's Hochschule der Künste. In 1973 he won the competition to succeed Boris Blacher as Professor of Composition there. He has conducted numerous seminars and courses in composition in Poland, Denmark, Germany, Finland and Slovakia. In 1990 he received an honorary doctor's degree from the Wilhelmian University in Münster. In 1963 Szalonek discovered and classified the so-called 'combined sounds' generated by the woodwind instruments. He is also the author of theoretical studies on a wide range of subjects, including combined sounds, sonorism, Chopin and Debussy. (Wikipedia)

Article 2 – Admission requirements

The Competition is open to all composers of any age and nationality.

Each composer can submit multiple scores for the following instruments (solo, duo, trio, quartet):

flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon.

The composition can have been published, performed but not released on professional CD album until the end of 2018.

The work must not exceed 10 minutes.

All score will be sent by email in PDF format, at info@phasma-music.com .

The registration fee is €60,00 for the first work / submission. Other submissions will be registered with the fee of €40,00.

Article 3 – Submission date

The deadline for the submissions is 15 March 2018.

Article 4 – Registration and submission of scores

Each email sent to submit a score shall include:

– The score and parts in A4 format, (please indicate duration);

– A second PDF-file containing the identity of the composer (name and address, nationality, telephone number, email, website, short CV) and a self-certification testifying the originality of the composition, which must not have been recorded, as well authorisation for the performance, publication, recording and broadcasting of the work.

Other file formats than PDF will not be accepted!

There is no registration form.

The personal details of the composers and their compositions selected for the final will be made known to the public only when the results of the elimination phase of the competition have been decided. Composers who do not reach the final phase will remain anonymous also after the end of the competition.

Article 5 – Phases of the competition

The competition will consist of two phases: the elimination phase and the final. After the elimination phase, a maximum of 16 scores will be selected by the jury for the final, by April 2, 2018.

The final phase of the competition will consist of two evening events open to the public to be held in Kwidzyn on 4 & 5 June 2018, within the concert season of the II Kwidzyn Music Spring International Festival. In the final concert, the Contemporary Ensemble will perform the selected works. After the performances, the Jury present in the concert hall, will meet and decide on the winner. The winning composition will be announced at the end of the evening.

Article 6 – Jury and voting procedure


After the performance of at least 16 works, the jury will meet to decide on the winner.

Article 7 – Prizes


The winners of the competition will be awarded the “WITOLD SZALONEK” Prize, which includes:

Prize of 1000 Euros (gross of withholding taxes),

Prize of 500 Euros (gross of withholding taxes),

Prize of 250 Euros (gross of withholding taxes).

In addition, 7 special mentions (including the winner) will be awarded:

- A professional recording to be released commercially in 2018, by the PHASMA MUSIC – WILLOWHAYNE

(sub-label of Naxos Music Group) as well as a laureate certificate.

The decision of the jury is irrevocable.

Article 8 – Legal terms

Application to participate in the Competition implies the acceptance of the above-stated rules.

Pomysł na Międzynarodowy Konkurs Kompozytorski im. WITOLDA SZALONKA zrodził się z idei stworzenia projektu, który miałby na celu zapoznanie się ze współczesną muzyką naszych czasów, poświęcony pamięci wielkiego polskiego kompozytora XX wieku, WITOLDA SZALONKA (1927-2001).

Wybrane utwory kompozytorów zostaną wykonane podczas dwóch koncertów finałowych w ramach II Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Kwidzyńska Wiosna Muzyczna.

Zasady

Artykuł 1 – Przedmiot

Fundacja Phasma-Music niniejszym ogłasza pierwszą edycję Międzynarodowego Konkursu Kompozytorskiego im. WITOLDA SZALONKA.

WITOLD SZALONEK - urodzony w 1927 roku w Czechowicach-Dziedzicach, zmarł w 2001 roku w Berlinie, polski kompozytor. W latach 1949-56 studiował w Państwowej Wyższej Szkole Muzycznej w Katowicach. Po swoim pierwszym sukcesie na międzynarodowych konkursach kompozytorskich otrzymał grant w Kranichsteiner Musikinstitut w Darmstadt (1960). W latach 1962-63 kontynuował naukę w Nadii Boulanger w Paryżu. W 1967 zaczął uczyć kompozycji w katowickiej szkole, a w latach 1970-74 był odpowiedzialny za Zakład Kompozycji i Teorii. Na początku lat 70. został zaproszony przez Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst do pracy jako artysta w rezydencji Hochschule der Künste w Berlinie Zachodnim. W 1973 r. wygrał konkurs na przejęcie stanowiska Borisa Blachera jako profesora kompozycji. Prowadził wiele seminariów i kursów na temat kompozycji w Polsce, Danii, Niemczech, Finlandii i Słowacji. W 1990 roku otrzymał tytuł doktora honoris causa Uniwersytetu Wilhelmskiego w Münster. W 1963 roku Szalonek odkrył i sklasyfikował tak zwane "combined sounds" generowane przez instrumenty dęte. Jest także autorem teoretycznych studiów na szeroką gamę tematów, w tym multifonów, sonoryzmów, Chopina i Debussy'ego. (Wikipedia)

Artykuł 2 – Wymagania odnośnie przyjęcia

Konkurs jest otwarty dla wszystkich kompozytorów w każdym wieku i każdej narodowości.

Kompozytor może złożyć wiele utworów dla następujących instrumentów (solo, duet, trio, kwartet):

flet, klarnet, obój, fagot.

Kompozycja mogła zostać wydana, wykonana, ale nie wydana na profesjonalnym nośniku CD do końca 2018 roku.

Utwór nie może przekraczać 10 minut.

Wszystkie kompozycje zostaną wysłane pocztą elektroniczną w formacie PDF, na adres info@phasma-music.com .

Opłata rejestracyjna wynosi 60,00 € za pierwszą kompozycję. Pozostałe kompozycje będą rejestrowane za opłatą 40,00€.

Artykuł 3 – Data złożenia

Termin złożenia to 15 marca 2018.

Artykuł 4 – Rejestracja i złożenie kompozycji

Każdy e-mail wysłany celem złożenia kompozycji powinien zawierać:

– Kompozycję w formacie A4, (proszę wskazać czas trwania);

– Drugi plik PDF zawierający tożsamość kompozytora (nazwisko i adres, narodowość, nr telefonu, email, stronę www, krótkie CV)oraz oświadczenie poświadczające oryginalność kompozycji, która nie została zarejestrowana na nośniku CD do końca 2018 roku, a także autoryzację do wykonania, publikacji, nagrywania i nadawania utworu.

Formaty plików inne niż PDF nie będą akceptowane!

Nie ma formularza rejestracyjnego.

- Potwierdzenie wpłaty opłaty rejestracyjnej za pośrednictwem systemu PayPal (+ płatność PayPal) lub przelewu bankowego (wszystkie opłaty za przelew i opłaty bankowe ponosi wnioskodawca):

Dane osobowe kompozytorów i ich kompozycje wybrane do finału zostaną podane do publicznej wiadomości dopiero po ustaleniu wyników fazy eliminacyjnej konkursu. Kompozytorzy, którzy nie dotrą do ostatniej fazy, pozostaną anonimowi także po zakończeniu konkursu.

Artykuł 5 – Fazy konkursu

Konkurs składa się z dwóch etapów: fazy eliminacji i finału. Po zakończeniu eliminacji maksymalnie 16 kompozycji zostanie wybranych przez jury do finału 2 kwietnia 2018 r..

Końcowa faza konkursu będzie się składać z dwóch wieczornych wydarzeń, które odbędą się w Kwidzynie w dniach 4 i 5 czerwca 2018 r., w ramach sezonu koncertowego II Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Wiosna Muzyczna Kwidzynie. Zwycięska kompozycja zostanie ogłoszona pod koniec drugiego wieczoru.

Artykuł 6 – Jury i procedura głosowania

Po wykonaniu co najmniej 16 dzieł, jury spotka się, aby wybrać zwycięzcę.

Artykuł 7 – Nagrody

Laureat konkursu otrzyma nagrodę "WITOLDA SZALONKA" wartości 1000 Euro (brutto), wartości 500 Euro (brutto) i wartości 250 Euro (brutto).

Ponadto zostanie przyznane 7 specjalnych wyróżnień (w tym zwycięzca):

- profesjonalne nagranie, które zostanie wydane komercyjnie w 2018 roku przez PHASMA MUSIC - WILLOWHAYNE (Naxos Music Group), a także certyfikat laureata.

Decyzja jury jest nieodwołalna.

Zgłoszenie udziału w Konkursie oznacza zaakceptowanie powyższych zasad.
