Michalis Sourvinos


Born in Athens - Greece. He studied Classical Guitar, Advanced Theory, Composition, Saxophone and Piano at Southeastern College. He took his Soloist Degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Classical Guitar with Honours from the “New Conservatory of Thessaloniki” and “Piraeus Municipal Conservatory”, with supervising Costas Cotsiolis. He took his Degree in Music Theory from the “Athenaeum Conservatory”, under the supervision of Professor Ch. Xanthoudakis and his Diploma in Fuge from “Zografou Concervatory G. Politopoulos”.


He has participated in masterclasses with: L. Brouwer, S. Assad, P. Bellinati, H. Kaeppel, M. Socias , “Los Angeles Quartet” and others.


He has been awarded, among others, the 1st Prize:

at the “Volos International Guitar Festival”,

at the “Las Palmas Guitar Festival”,

at the “International Competition at Jülich – Koslar”, with the “A.C.M.O.”,

at the “Εnsembles Competition of Athens Municipality”, with the “AthChEnsemble 2012” and

he has been awarded the Special Prize for the Best Arrangement and Performance in the “Chamber Music Competition of Aschaffenburg”, on the arrangement of the 6th Brandenburg Concerto of J. S. Bach, with the “Fuego Guitar Trio”.


He has collaborated as a Solo Guitar and Mandolin Player with symphonic orchestras, music ensembles and international artists in Greece, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt, France etc.

He has performed as a Soloist and conducted masterclasses at the “Las Palmas International Guitar Festival”, the “Music University of Vasteras - Stockholm”, the “Volos International Guitar Festival”, the “Naxos International Guitar Festival”, the “Porto Heli International Festival”, the “Nafplio International Festival”, the “International Guitar Festival of Athens Megaron”, the “International Euro Art Meeting” at Wroclaw – Poland, the “Ph. Nakas Concert Hall”, the “Forum Gitarre Wien”, the “Tirana International Guitar Festival”, “Gitarrenfestival Gevelsberg” etc. He has, also, taken part in various recordings and TV shows.


He has often participated as a committee member at International Guitar Competitions. He has collaborated with numerous Conservatories and Music Schools in Athens and the region.

He teaches Guitar, Μandolin, Chamber Music and Theory at conservatories in Athens and conducts masterclasses in Greece and abroad.

Several of his students have been awarded in international Classical Guitar Competitions.

He is Member of “Fuego Guitar Trio”, Founding Μember - Art Director of “Athens Chamber Ensemble 2012” and Αrt Director of several Music Festivals and Concervatories.

His compositions have been published by leading publisher “Papagrigoriou - Nakas”.
